When it comes to spelling and grammar, I think what most people forget is that dictionaries and grammar books were written by analysing the way people use language and then formulating these books of 'rules' and 'definitions'. The language comes first, then the linguists define how the language is used. If the way the language is used changes, then the grammars and dictionaries need to change so that their descriptions are accurate.

I think Wordia is doing a fine job of showing how normal (and some not so normal) people are using the language and how it is changing.

It is the greatest strength of the English language that it has been able to adapt and absorb influences from so many other languages and cultures. This is partly why so much great poetry and literature has been created in English.

I think it would be a tragedy for the language to be petrified by grammar books and dictionaries.

Great work Wordia and Thank you.

"Basically they were saying that having members of the public define words risks confusing and undermining the English Language because a dictionary should be compiled by experts and experts only."

I figured that was a feature of your service, and not a bug

Keep up the good fight
